I am considering fitting wheel spacers to widen track on 98 Z3 1.9, what size would you suggest also would they need to be fitted all round .

Put a straight edge vertically on the wheel arch and measure the distance across to the top of the wheel rim, this will give you an idea of the size required.

I'm getting 25mm for mine to fit 18's all round. But it will be a different body style so not sure on standard Z3

On my 2000 FL Z3 I had 20mm on the rear and 14mm on the front. These are now on my Z4.

Hard to tell from that picture, you need to take picture along the side of the car from the rear. But yes 20mm is a common figment.

Be interesting what you go for as I have same style, personally I was thinking 10mm but haven't measured anything up yet.

Mine is off the road for the moment for its winter update and I managed to get new wheels fitted. To get the spacing perfect I removed the rear spring and jacked the suspension up to the stops and measured the fitment. If you have the space its pretty easy to remove the rear spring and have a look before ordering spacers.

At full stuff I have a few mm of space and nothing rubs at all. And its about as close as its going to get.

I have a spare set of 4x15mm hubcentric spacers with extended bolts I can live without.
