Z3 weird ticking sound

I have a 1996 BMW Z3 (M44), and it makes this weird ticking sound when I turn it on. When it idles it makes the sound but when I accelerate it goes away, the sound is coming from the front of the engine. can anyone help me.

Idle air control valve possibly "IACV", or maybe DISA Valve "god only knows what that acronym means" , google those two ...

By education and elimination of what the issue could not be, simple ... I had both issues with mine, replaced both of them, fixed..
So I can only help you with my own experience as what may cause the noise you vaguely described.. That being said, I am unfamiliar with that engine. as I have a 52. Good luck with it anyway, hope you find the annoyance.....
