Please can you clarify what a “silly price” is?

Cars are priced on merit. If you specify the year, colour, mileage, spec, revision, service history and a huge myriad of other details it could be easier for a seller to start a negotiation.
Certain models are always going to hold a premium.

I have one that "almost" fits the bill except it's manual and it's got an aftermarket exhaust ....

Generally the cars I'm looking at seem to be selling between £2K and £3.5K depending on condition, engine, mileage etc.
Dealer cars are more expensive for obvious reasons but cars are being advertised at £6K+ and good luck to them
I'm not knocking anyone for asking that price it's their car after all

I guess it depends on the condition and history you’re after. For 3.5k you should be able to get a nice one but obviously if it has sports seats, air con low mileage, dealer history, low ownership etc then the price will be premium.
If you look at an over 100k 2.2 with standard seats no air con , non sports with no history that’s past its best then there are loads within that budget.
A manual, one owner, full history top of the range low mileage mint 3.0 is never going to be cheap or sub 6k, and if you find one like that can you let me know and I’ll buy it.
Good luck with your search, sometimes they do come up but you have to be quick and perhaps nearer to Christmas.
I agree with ljbmwz3 , as you’re after an auto, the guys in Leamington Spar import some exceptionally clean automatics.
Note: I am not affiliated with them.

Are there any issues with Jap imports?
On insurance forms they always ask if it's an import so presumably it flags something up

Hey Carl,
This may be of interest. It’s on eBay , item number 312776961896
It’s not my car. It’s in Plymouth

BMW z3 3.0 sport roadster
2002
automatic
83000 (actual mileage 82200)
Leather interior
Unmolested car which is fully original (other than a new roof) and no modifications
CD multi changer
Electric roof (replaced for new), electric mirrors and windows.
Aircon (needs regassing)
Heated seats
FSH (last service as 79000)
8 months MOT with no advisories
Tyres are as new.

Only done 10k miles in that last 5 years
Car drives like a dream just not practical with a family I have owned this for the past year but it was given to me by my stepmother who owned the car since 2003 and it has wanted nothing.

Sensible cash offers considered as this car needed to be gone this weekend. Needs collecting asap

Any questions please feel free to contact me on 07713120023.

Relisted again, only bid if you are wanting to purchase it without excuses.

On 22-Sep-19 at 21:21:40 BST, seller added the following information:

I want a 20% non refundable deposit within 48 hours of the listing ending to avoid any more time wasters. This car will sell for what ever it ends on!!

Ha ha,
I just clicked your link for Gumtree and it’s the same car!
I think that, regardless of colour is well worth seeing at least.

The e-bay car appears to be the same as on gumtree. With such specific requirements and a limited budget I would suggest that, @carl brassington, you may need to consider making a compromise on colour.
Remember this is an 18 yeat old car and with the history described it would benefit from gearbox and diff oil being changed, all rubber bushes, drive belts and hoses being checked and replaced where necessary. At 83K miles the suspension will be getting tired also. Whilst not an immediate job you will notice the difference immediately. If you are a reasonably competent diy mechanic and carefully select aftermarket parts (quality not cheapest) you should be able to do most of the work for an extra £1k and end up with a well sorted 3 litre for under £5k, which can't be bad.

I would suggest that many of the 6k(ish) cars are in very good condition, mileage, history and had suspension / bush / brake work done, cheaper cars though may be in good condition may actually need considerable work to get up to scratch, you get what you pay for, it just depends if you want to do the work over time or get one all ready done. Don't assume all sellers are being unrealistic with their pricing, many are not, potential buyers just may not realise the money spent and work carried out on the car, Of course there are many chancers out there too ;)
There are quite a few Zeds on this forum I would happily pay top end money for as I know the the owners have spent loads and got their cars in top end condition, including the bits that are not obvious.

Good luck with the search

One at Rockvale near me, ticks the boxes but is top dollar and personally not too keen on the seats.

Mark’s car are well sorted, all the common areas are fixed / replaced and they come with warranty. They do cost more, but then you can buy a cheap car and have considerable expense as Nodzed has stated. All depends on what you want.

Good luck!

Hi @carl brassington ,
Are you still after a Z3?...
I have a straight 6, 2.8 for sale in Atlanta Blue. Had it for a few years now and was my uncle's before mine so I know it's been taken care of! Reluctantly having to sell due to requiring a more practical (boring) car :(
Does have a few modifications/extras (AC Schnitzer), but nothing that can't be easily put back to original if required and the extras could then be sold on.
Asking price is £3495.
