Hi, my name David and I would like to buy a 2.8 litre Z3 in very good condition.
A friend who has one advises me to try and find one with a mechanical throttle if possible
I live in NE Essex so anywhere within 75 miles would be good.

Welcome!

I've removed your direct contact details as per the rules. It's generally not a good idea to post contact details on an open forum as you never know what will happen to them ;)

As for the throttle, the later Zeds moved to "fly by wire" but it's not the worst in the world. Early 2.8's will definitely be a conventional throttle cable, not sure if the later 99/00 2.8's switched to FBW though. I think there will be other more pressing things to have on your wish list than that :)

I believe the later TU 2.8 like mine only have the fly by wire to override the thottle cable in the event of the ASC being activated by very spirited driving and the computer beleiving the cars become unstable, you could always switch it off giving you full cable control, only advisable if your an x rally driver or think you'll never need any assistance, even after landing in some farmers field on a very wet day. :sour: Oh, and welcome, hope you find your Z soon, you won't be disappointed.:welcome:

Welcome on the forum from me too.

On a side note, hey @Rha, did you plant your Z in a field?
I will not laugh if you did......

No HT, just my RS2000 twice on night rally's. Couldn't get any club navigators to sit in my motor for nearly 12mths after. Took my girls to see Dumbo Sat/matinee and they talked me into going in, came out car was gone, ringer gang from Surrey had apparently been following me for a couple of days according to plod. Young gang member who stole it didn't want to hand it over straight away. Took his girl friend to the shops parked it on double yellow and got a ticket, but the warden noticed the new tax disc I put on it didn't match the ringers NO plate, called it in.
He'd filed the numbers off it so I had to go and prove it was mine, plod told me it might be hard to prove it wasn't his. In the two yrs I'd owned it I kept locking myself out of it so hid a key in the rear off side light, told plod and they filmed me getting it out and locking /unlocking the car. Good job it didn't happen recently cos I would have probably forgot where I hid it.:sour:....=))
