Hello
We are new members my wife having just purchased a one owner Z3.
We need to get some new tyres and assume that there must be some advice on the forum. As it is my wife's car I think the main requirement is safety rather than out and out handling so wet grip is an important factor.

Hi Paul, welcome from here near Lincoln. To be honest tyres can be a very debatable topic, I personally have Maxxis tyres which are very good in the wet and extremely good in the dry. These are not a premium brand of tyre nor are they very "budget" either. Keep watching, there will be a big response.

Tony.

I'm currently rolling on Maxxis MA-Z1's, which have a directional pattern (see pic). As Tony says good around grip, but you may want to consider the Falken 453 as well. It's unidirectional pattern so can be a bit more forgiving on rougher roads.

Both tyres are well regarded on here, along with a few other types too ;)

+1 for the Maxxis, done nearly 10,000 miles on them, never had a problem in the wet or dry. A great tyre for the price.:)

Hi Paul. Welcome
I have KUMHO, 225/45/16s on my Zed, all round.
No problem with grip, wet or dry. Appear to wear well also, but only doing 6000 miles a year max.
These are South Korean and do not feature very much on the popular websites so not sure about price.

Welcome Paul.
As already commented there are lots of different opinions on tyres but you may be limited by your rim size on some of the recommendations.
I have KUMHO's on an old run around and have recently fitted Falken ZIEX's on the Zed. Both handle well in the wet.
There is a EU rating system on tyres - you may find this of interest http://www.blackcircles.com/general/tyre-labelling/tyre-label

Me too Rich. One of the nice young rubber technicians at work said he would swap my rear tyres on the rims as the insides are just beginning to show wear. This way I will get the most from them. What a kind young man ( wonder what he's after?) Did I think that out loud?:ymdevil:=))

running conti contact sport on mine all round on 16'' rims..good grip both wet and dry..

kumho area good mid range shout, if you want to save a bit nankangs are ok as well...have just put pirelli P-zeros on my Alfa GT and at £100 a corner thought they were great value.

will be trying Falkens next time around though on both cars have heard great things about them and they are a great price.
