Central locking ceased to function from my main key, battery CR2016 replaced but still dead.
Ordered a replacement blank key on ebay for £13, shipped from China but arrived within a week.
Took the keys apart and put the new keys board and plastic contact sheet in my original key, the new board came with a battery and has micro switches on the board instead of the carbon tracks on the original. Put it back together and tested the buttons and all worked, led light on the fob illuminates when buttons pressed.
Went to the car with my working key and the repaired key and synced them to the car using the finger dance, ignition turned on then key removed, hold the unlock button down whilst pressing the lock button three times, the door must be closed when you do this. It synced and locked the doors to indicate it was successful. The second key was then immediately held up at shoulder level near the rear view mirror and the unlock button held in whilst the lock button was pressed three times. Again the car locked indicating syncing was successful. Tested both keys locking and unlocking and the third button for interior light, all worked fine.
1 New Blank key and Board on left of the pictures shows button side of boards.
2 Close up of both Boards, note new board has micro switches.
3 Battery side of boards.
For interest if you zoom in to the bottom right of the fobs you will see the coffin shaped transponder chip that is coded to the car to enable the key to start the car. This has no power supply and is a completely separate system from the central locking. If I wanted to use the new key the blade would have to be cut and the transponder would have to be coded to the car or once cut the original coded transponder could be put into the new key negating the need to code the new transponder.
