Hi all,
Just in the process of buy a year 2000 2.0 UK Roadster.
This car does not have a inner roof lining fitted.
is it possible to buy and fit the inner roof lining that I have seen on other cars.
Or do these cars have something to allow a roof lining to be fitted that I don’t.
Thanks for any help

I thought the 2000s would have liners fitted as standard.

I bought two liners off of Spurs Fan in a Coupe on this site and fitted them to the 98s I have. Bit of fluffing about and drilling holes in the rear hoop but something that can be done at home.

Delk,
Thanks for your response.
the car doesn’t have one. It’s a well looked after car so I can only presume that it never had a lining.
but you’ve done it so it is ok to fit to a car that came without a liner.
Now all I have to do is find one.
Thanks again.

My 2000 Z3 had a lined roof so just down to luck maybe?

It's possible your zed has had the roof changed at some point as I thought that all face-lift models had a liner .
Pre face-lift definitely didn't have it .

If the roof is totally original ( face-lift or pre face-lift) the rear window will have bmw logo lower left corner

Sorry not the greatest picture but dark just now and window steamed up a bit at the moment.

I wonder if there is a way of telling if it originally had a lining. Is there a fixing or something that would not be there if it never had a lining?

I will have a look tomorrow and post some pictures for you as I have a face-lift and pre face-lift zed one with a liner one without.

Perhaps it was built before the facelift in 1999 but only registered in 2000.?

Same Wikipedia page also says that as part of the facelift in 1999, "The Z3 2.0 model was replaced by the Z3 2.2i and the Z3 2.8 model was replaced by the Z3 3.0i"

My Dakar is a very early face-lift model and has a roof liner but yes there are oddball mixes .
Something I found was put a set of pre face-lift M seats in my zed seat wiring same as my pre face-lift ( and the M ) but the pre tensioners were different and I ended up using the ones from my original seats.

All 2.0 had roof linings. It has either been removed due to damage, the outer has been replaced without refitting the liner due to the extra cost or the whole roof and frame has been replaced with one from a pre-facelift.

To see if the car originally had one the easiest way is to look at the frame above the rear window. The rear part of liner mounts to this hoop with five or six screws so you will see holes on the bottom side.

Drilling these holes was the scariest part for me when I installed the two liners. Drilling on a round tube knowing if I slipped the drill would go through the roof faster then I could blink wasn't enjoyable. If you do need to retrofit the liners I would suggest removing the seats as it makes it much easier drilling and moving around the car. Between the seats and roll hoops if you have them there is not alot of room to work.
