Jack Smith Trimmers in Swansea is well used by forum members, me included. Believe there is also a popular one in Croydon (soft tops). These make and fit, not supply for you to fit.

Jack Smiths is super busy and has a long lead time which tells its own story. I can't remember a negative word about his work or kit.

Took my Z3 to Raymond @ Jack Smiths in Swansea a few months ago having joined the waiting list 4 months previously...Brilliant job and excellent value for money. The only thing to point out is you don't get a zip in rear window...But really what else do you expect for what he charges?

I always like having a go so I ordered the cheapest I could find which was from a seller in the usa via etsy. At the time it was 180USD with free shipping to the UK. But had to pay around £50 in taxes.

The material is actually pretty good but the back window is laminated in so not stitched and looks a bit weird.

You get what you pay for.

But for me it's fine. Top down in summer otherwise hardtop the rest of the time.

Fitting was reasonably straight forward. Lots of info about fitting on the forum

Ignore the different body - it is a bog standard Z3 under there.

Was always my plan to get a better roof when my rebody is complete. Would I fit it myself? Probably not. For the price Jack Smith charges it just doesn't make sense to do it yourself more than once in your life.

thanks for the suggestions. I tried Jack Smith trimmers, booked the car in and Told to call and confirm 2-3 weeks before. Continuously tried calling, texting over 2-3 weeks never got an answer or reply. So going down the self fit option !

So just bear in mind that the man to speak to is Raymond Pugh. It’s not actually called Jack Smith’s anymore, but it’s in the same place and it’s the same person. However when you look him up on Google maps there’s a link to a facebook page below. It’s all a bit confusing, but when you meet him at all kinda adds up. The trick with Raymond is to call him between 8 and 8:30, else he is busy fitting hoods and probably won’t answer. Also, I think he has a land line in the garage he works out of, so once he’s done for the day you won’t reach him unless you have a mobile number.

He is two things

One of the last traditional "Trimmers"

One of those sort of people many would refer to as "quite a character"

For what he charges and the quality of work if you want to use him you have to be prepared around his idiosyncrasies with regard haphazard communications and the salubrity and location of his "business premises"

Would I use him again? Hell yes without a shadow of a doubt, but if you are planning to use him don't leave it too late as he like the rest of us is getting on a bit... 🙂
