Hello peeps and a Merry Christmas to everyone. has anyone got any thoughts on Z3 insurance as most of them and mine are 20 years old but not classics. I have at the moment after contacting mine who are Chruchill not got a satisfactory answer as to how they value a Z in the case of a total loss, all they say is market value but when you try to check into market value the only UK one I can find is Parkers and looking at the prices they quote you can't buy a scuffy 1.9 for their values. The worrying thought is this is possibly what they will pay you if something happens, premium quote is £185.00 FC I checked with Footman James on classic insurance they want £500.00 plus. Does anyone have any ideas or should i not be concerned. Many thanks Ken N

@ClassicLineInsurance mate. I have a guaranteed valuation on my 2.8 of £8k, try them.

Several companies will give you agreed value if it is a second car. I have been with Classic Line but this year I shopped around and got it £110 cheaper with Lancaster for the same cover.

Ignore Parkers, Glass etc. Insurance companies just use them to justify a low-ball offer in the event of a total loss. With market value, the insurer is obligated to make you an offer to get you back in a similar vehicle of similar condition, in line with the market at the time. If you can evidence prices for equivalent cars to the insurance assessor, for example through eBay or Autotrader ads, they'll likely pay out around that rather than Parkers etc. If they low-balled you, they'd have to justify it by showing you a live advert or similar.

A few years ago, my mother's automatic 1999 1.3 Yaris was written off. Parker's valued it at c.£500 and that's what the assessor initially offered. However, auto Yaris' of this vintage are rare and the only other one for sale in the country at the time was £2,300. I successfully argued that this was the amount needed to get my mother back into an equivalent car, dug my heels in, and got her £2,200. The car itself just needed a few second hand panels, less than £100, and she's still pottering about in it:)

£185 for FC seems pretty decent tbh. If you value your car higher than what eBay, Autotrader, et al are showing for similar, then consider Agreed Value. I myself currently have a Market Value policy as mine is bog-standard. Classic insurance not an option as it's my only vehicle.

Thanks Andy I have tried to get onto classic line site but its comes up as unsafe site but I will try again later

Thanks again Ken

Hi thanks for your advice we have always thought this is how they derive the market value but never quite trusted it in reality so after being quote over £500 and £457 for agreed valuation I think I will take the chance and stick with £185.oo and argue later if and when necessary. Many thanks all the best Ken

Just to give you some extra reassurance, the company I argued with and who paid out to my mother was Churchill

Hi Ken, we have both our cars insured with Classicline & have found them to be very competitive & good to deal with. Having said that we have never needed to make a claim so have no experience of dealing with them in that situation nor do we have an agreed value policy at the moment.

Hagerty were the most competetive and easiest to deal with when I was searching last year, under £500 for 2x Z3, both with agreed values, legal cover, key cover, RAC breakdown, trailer cover, 90 day EU cover etc. Low usage though, I think they're on 1800 miles each.

Hi Ian & Sue

Thanks for the insurance info havnt had any luck with Classicline I have tried a couple of time to go onto their site but comes up as unsafe not secure on my laptop I am now trying Haggerty who seem quite good but they include 90 days european cover and RAC breakdown which I dont want and would appear cannot be removed from the policy but with that they came in at £326 with an agreed valuation. I will keep trying as it is the agreed valuation I would like.

All the best foe 2022 Ken & Linda

We have always delt with Classicline on the phone never used their website. They also include breakdown cover but not RAC, I think you can remove it if you want. Don't forget to ask for forum discount. Good luck.

Best wishes for the New Year, Ian & Sue.

I also used to deal with Classicline by phone and found them very easy to deal with.

Its sometimes a bit of a lottery getting car insurance especially agreed value. Over the last 7 years since I been getting agreed value on my M Coupe I've used Brentacre, Manning and latterly for the last 3 years Adrian Flux. I regularly check for quotes at renewal time. Classicline were very close this last time (very easy to deal with), Hagerty's quote was out of sight more than double what I've ended up paying!! Driver age, car, area, level of agreed value, etc all come into play which is were it becomes a lottery.
It will be interesting next renewal time to see who gets my business.

Hi Pete
