Z3 hibernation.

after having my hand forced I am now locking my Z3 up for the winter. This will be the first year I have owned a Zed so I am wondering if I need to be cautious of anything.
Perhaps just turn over every month ??

Take a look at page 107 of the owners hand book.

Key things from memory;

Inflate tyres to 4 bar
Oil and filter change
Treat seals
Give it a good clean
Full fuel tank to the brim to prevent condensation (nothing to do with rust as the tank is plastic)
Either disconnect the battery or put on a trickle charger.

Absolutely nothing to worry about apart from the battery and brakes. I disconnect my battery and chock the wheels.

The only downsides are the radio code needs to be put in and the odometer trip resets to zero.

Six months is no time at all. I wouldn't worry about anything else - don't run it until you need to run it. You'll do more harm than good.

If you are paranoid, when you come to start it, remove the fuel pump fuses and turn it over until the oil pressure light goes out. Then refit the fuses and enjoy. Beware of binding brakes.

IF you do run it, keep it running until it is completely warmed through with no condensation from the exhaust. If you can't do this then do as @Pingu suggests and don't run it at all.

Shelly after reading another thread this hibernation is forced by dvla on medical grounds
But on the other side of the coin 6 months yo get any jobs or some cleaning done ready for a new years zedding
( hope your medical issue turns out to be nothing and this ban is just precautionary )

Preparation for winter lay-up? Put it on stands and throw a load of polybushes at it.

Your best bet is to give it to me for 6 months.
I will make sure that all tyre pressures, fuel, oil and other essentials are kept to safe levels and that the engine is kept warm. I will keep it clean and return it to you in the spring with just a few extra miles on the clock.

My 2 cents, if its not garaged make sure there are no trees dropping leaves on top of it to block water rain gutters etc to prevent water going where you don't want to, lubricate the seals and the window guides if you haven't used them frequently, put the car air circulation on "face" position and close all the individual air vents to prevent moisture etc coming in (down to a point), and then agreed on tyre inflation, battery, absolutely no handbrake. if its going to be just a few months I would avoid turning it over for short periods, it will be fine.

What I do:

• Give it a good clean inside and out
• If stored inside put the windows down slightly, to allow air to circulate
• Handbrake off / wheels chocked
• I use Silica Gel Desiccant Granules Beads in some old takeaway tubs and place in the footwells to absorb any moisture
• Disconnect battery

If you clean the car run it around for a bit to make sure brakes and components are bone dry before storing it.
