So I just got this hard top from someone for like 300 bucks, although it does have some interesting wracks on it. it doesn’t seem to fit on my car. It fit on the sellers z3 so I’m confused why it wouldn’t fit on mine. Does the year matter with these?

Year doesn't matter. Or I don't think it matters. I never saw anyone saying anything about it.

i assume you got all the mounting brackets. It will need adjusting on your car. There's lots of discussion about fitting here on the forum.

Hows it not fitting? Front rear, all. I am assuming you have the fitting kit installed. If you post some clearer pics or give a bit more info we may be able to help.

As other have said no difference model to model hardtop straight fit to all zed 3
4 or 6 cyl face-lift or pre face-lift.
To make to hardtop fit you will need the fitting kit this consists of 2 bracket assembly that bolts to the roof frame on either side ( this is for the 2 pins on the hardtop to locate into ) once pins engaged 2 levers one each side to lock the pins down.
At the front you need 2 t40 screw that fit in the 2 holes at front of car roof frame where the 2 holes are just now
The 2 front screws lock the front of the hardtop to the car windscreen frame.

The rear bracket are adjustable and may require tinkering to get the top to sit nice and be watertight.

As others have said some more pictures of what the specific issues you are having may help.

Stephen.
