Z3 Hardtop Cost

Hi Guys,

Does anyone have any experience in buying a second hand hardtop? I was wondering what would be needed (apart from the actual roof) and the cost of parts? I've seen a few on Ebay at around £750 - £1000 but was wondering if I needed a fitting kit or something.

You'll need the fitting kit also, circa £1000 for both mate.

No mate, you get up to speed and be driving an open top car with carnage behind you.

I'll have a look to see if anyone has done it before, but I'll probably guess not!

Thanks for all the advice, from people's experience is it harder to get the brackets or the roof? I'm thinking about the budget and spreading the cost (i.e. not buying everything at once!) But don't know which is harder to find.

Hard tops for Z3s just seem so expensive perhaps because they are fairly rare . I picked up a hardtop for my Porsche Boxster for £320 plus £50 for fitting kit and luckily in the correct colour . I've yet to see a Z3 hardtop for less than £500. I think they do compliment the car though and are well worth fitting if you can get one at reasonable cost

I was really lucky last year on my way to work there was a 1997 1,9 with a hardtop 12 months mot 77k miles for £600on the side of the road so i bought the lot

I’ve been looking for a hardtop for my z3, seen a few although seems I’d either have to be patient and wait for a good one in the right colour or buy whatever colour and have it sprayed.

My concern is the fixing kit. How many parts does it consist of? I worry about parting company with a good few hundred quid and not getting everything I’d need.

Perfect thanks. Most fitting kits I see on eBay consist of no more than a couple of parts so makes me wary, this picture helps loads.

No, I actually feel I’d be lucky to get both for £1k. I’m keeping eyes open though.

I already had a fitting kit so just had to source a hardtop which I purchased for £450 plus £200 to get it resprayed in Atlanta blue to match car.
