I trialed some DTM angel eyes in my headlights 12 months ago, because I liked the shape better than the horse shoe shape.
At the time I used some designed for a 7 series as they were the nearest sizes.
They were strips of leds but with a flat bottom, I placed them behind the lenses so that the yellow led did not show through as much, when they were not lit.
I did have to use quite a bit of clear silicon to hold them in place but they worked fine and I was happy with them, as below.
However,
I have now purchased a newly available type, that are actually tailored to fit the Z3. They are also the type similar to newer `BMW's with the clear lens in front of the led's.
I bought them from Ali Express in China, took only 9 days to come, and no extra duty to pay.
They are from Geerge Tech Pro Lighting, as below:
I had a second set of lights so set about taking them apart with a heat gun,
I removed the lens and drilled a small hole to feed the wires through, otherwise they would have had to go from the top of the LED to the top of the lens and would have been on show. I had to cut the wires and then solder and heat shrink back together afterwards.
Also the chrome had rubbed through in places on the edges of the lens, so they got a coat of silver paint.
First one done:
Same process with second one
and then the front cover refitted with lots of extra black hotmelt to seal any possible gaps:
and outer lens polished:
Lights were regularly being plugged in to test they were still working at every stage, but needn't have worried:
Same process carried out on driver's side:
and final fitting:
I am really pleased with them, the quality is great, and they are very bright .
and can be seen even in direct sunlight, as below:
