Hi Friends! I’m happy to get back with my 3rd z3! This time it is prefacelift 2,8 coupe. I have some mods done , one of them is retrofitting Z3M console that was 3d printed and then covered with natural wood and colour matched to fit retrofitted oem bmw nardi wooden steering wheel. As everyone knows M console has same buttons as facelift. All buttons except ASC and Defroster switch have same connectors and can be replaced immediately.
ASC has different connector but it has 4pins and using diagram we can just replace pins in to the new connector ant it will work.
The only problem i can not solve myself is to retrofit Facelift rear defroster switch in to prefacelift coupe.
Prefacelift connector is big the same type as ac switch has. And there is 5 pins (2 brown ground wires). Facelift connector is small and have 4 pins.
Here diagram i guess for prefacelift coupe (i has 5 wires but two are ground wires and it seems 2 wires are splitted from one wire)

here diagram of defroster switch with 4 wires - approximately same wires but 1 ground.

I made decision and connected prefacelift/facelift this way:
7/2
4/1 ground (and 8 - second ground is not connected)
5/3
3/4

this way connected switch did not burn any relays in my coupe:)
But switch now has light on like it works. But it does not work. Ilumination of the switch works eith lights on. But it does not heat the rear window

Have you checked using a multimeter the continuity of the defrosting element? I assume it is/was in working order with the old switch?
