Not bad. A good start point for anyone totally new to Z3s. But a bit high level.

I only skimmed through it quickly but don’t think any mention made of dead shocks and knackered bushes. Various water ingress points. VANOS seals. ABS lights. Corroded brake lines hidden around rear axle. Floppy gear shifts. Disintegrated horns. Worn seat bolsters/leather. Broken interior door handles. Seized door mirrors. Leaking aerial bushes. Lazy windows. Spinning door locks. Boot loom. All very common issues a buyer should be looking for and hoping already sorted. Also glosses over worthiness of the 2.2 engine as a very good consideration. Anyway. Thought I’d jot these points down if anyone lands here looking to buy for first time and wants more detail.

Nah. That’s a very lightweight list for 20 year old cars. Compare that to the old days of a 10 year old mk 1/2 Escort. Rust bucket. Engines gone at 70k. Or even most other 20 year old cars now.

And people might as well know so they are turned on to the idea a well reworked car, ie like from the forum, might be the best deal. Even if it’s more money.

Crikey. I didn't know what a pig's ear I've just gone and lumbered myself with er 18 years ago.

Despite the initial shock of reading that list, this is exactly what I was looking for. 👍
Is there any info on water pump (60K I believe?), cambelt / chain etc?

That is a pretty good guide, I think he has got it wrong on the oil burning, the M54 is known for using a little oil which doesn't seem to be a probem on the M52 however it is not enough to worry about. My car on 160.000 miles only needs an occasional top up. The worries about cooling system problems are easily avoided, I changed my water pump and thermostat as a precaution at 104,00 but the old parts were perfectly OK. like any car regular maintenance is the key. Apart from the normal service items, every spring I remove the drive belts and check them and while they are off check all the pulleys and bearings. I also remove the DISA and check it. this year despite no symptoms, it was knackered and a new one needed.
