I've got to replace a blown tail light bulb and I've been thinking of changing all my bulbs for LED bulbs.

Is it a straight forward bulb swap or will I have to fit resistors to each bulb ?

My headlights need a refurb too and I'm thinking of getting one of those polishing kits although eventually I swap them for new angel eyes set up
 
The only bulbs which I swapped that needed ballast resistors were the indicator bulbs mate. That's to keep the flasher unit working at the correct rate. I changed the reverse light bulbs too but I haven't fond any LED stop/tail bulbs yet. The Z3 is much more accommodating to this type of upgrade than the Z4.

Straight swap, just be mindful of the diameter of the head of the led replacement as too big and it won't fit into the lense.

Indicators need resistors or a modified relay. All other bulbs cab be swapped

Yes, they can be swapped. Have you found any LED stop/tail bulbs?
