I need help folks. I have a 2000, 2.8 Z3 and suddenly the Boot Lid won't open on press of the key button and turn in the boot key lock. The mechanism is functioning but it would seem the locking rod has become misplaced. Has anyone instructions on how to resolve this?

Thank you.

David.

Thank you for this Mike - I had viewed this solution yesterday but decided to wait for an alternative before drilling. I am going to try using a strong magnet with protection between the magnet and car and whilst turning the key drawing the magnet across the emblem area hoping that the lock will click open. I' let the Forum know how I get on.

Cheers.

David.

Hello! I am having the issue where the boot won't open. I watched the video regarding removing the emblem and drilling a hole into the back, etc. I really don't want to go that route. I see you guys have been posting an alternative method. May I have these details?

Hi Gary...I have the same problem and don't really fancy drilling a hole in my boot :( Could you please forward me details on how to open the boot without damaging the boot lid please.
Thanks,
Nat

Hi there, I have exactly the same problem on my 2000 Z3, not helped because the battery is failing! Very grateful if someone could tell me what/if the alternative is to taking off the emblem and drilling a hole! Thanks. Martin.

If you connect jump leads to the jump points under the bonnet the electric should work.
