Z3 boot issue

I have recently purchased a 1999 Z3 2.8 auto, Japanese import. The first couple of weeks the boot opened as it should but today it failed to open. I can hear what I believe is the lock unlocking but the boot won't open. Anyone out there have any ideas?

Try bouncing the boot lid whilst you press the button. failing that you may have to remove the badge. drill a hole to activate the lock

Thanks, was hoping not to have to drill a hole in my boot lid! Will try your other method first. Any idea why this happens?
