Wow! After keeping track of hardtops in the UK for well over a year you should grab this at £300!. I found one for my car and had it installed before it was exported and had to find the fittings also. It was delivered for £150. In NA we're lucky to find a top for under £1000. Find a kit and drive over and install the top there. JIM

Wow that is cheap, get the top first at that price :)
and then worry about the fixing kit later,
you could end with the lot under £600 bargain

Here is a tempting question - how much would you be looking for it?

I have other hypothetical questions but they relate to the mother-inlaw and gravitational waves :bookworm:

Well, hypothetically speaking, if l were to sell it, l would need the plastic trims that fit in place of the fitting kit, behind the seats.
I have all the parts in the fitting kit, including the plastic trims and the little covers that go over the holes.
As for price l am not sure. The hardtop is in mint condition, but is Topaz Blue not black.

HTH: after a year or more of searching and noting prices for hardtops the average price they sell for, no matter the colour, is around £5-600. The fitting kits go for anywhere from £300- 1995 with the alternative kits on ebay selling for £250. Then you can add on the costs to either pick up and install then drive home or about £150 for transport. then add on the cost to recolour. So if you can score a correct colour top with fitting kit close to home for around£800 or less you've done well! JIM

Ebay is a kettle of fish all of it's own, you can pay a lot or you can grab a bargain!
It's not the hardtops that's the problem to find its the hardtop plus fitting kit....Ebay tends to have a lot of car dealers that remove them and thus inflate the price, this thread for a black hardtop is both common and uncommon as the seller is a car dealer who happens to have forgotten to remove the fitting kit from the car before he sold it, now that's uncommon the fact he removed it to re-sell is very very common. Having spoken to the seller he comes across as genuinely nice guy, he will take £300 cash. It was still available as of this afternoon.

I have been looking for less than a week and been offered 2 Hardtops for: £270 and £300 ) (Both black) but as Jim points out hardtop plus fixing kit = £600'ish that is without a respray if required or collection costs. I am colour blind so any shade is good

At the end of the day if your in no rush to buy, a bargain or the right buy for YOU will come a long... maybe! :nailbiting:

Where can you purchase a fitting kit, including back windscreen loom and switch? I believe they are almost impossible to get?

That's the interesting bit David, finding all the bits all at once. I was going to get a hardtop but as I can't justify running 2 cars all year round I decided that I will keep my cash towards a nice new green soft top in the future.:)

I've got a hardtop,

I used it for a couple of years as my Softtop had a few marks on it.

Now I have a new Softtop I don't use it.

If you leave a hardtop on for a few weeks the material on the Softtop will rub and mark

So it sits upstairs in my ironing room on a stand with a cover.

But hey we all have things stored that we don't use!

It's good to see you do the ironing! Are you selling your hardtop?

Are we talking about marking of the plastic window, or the soft top itself?
My top is mostly down and l just leave it down when l put the car away.
I use the BMW protection cloth on the window, but there are one or two "rub marks" on the fabric, where the metal frame is behind it.
Is that what we are referring to here?

The rub marks appear when the top is left down for a long period i.e when the hardtop in in place.

When a car is put away the top should be stored up at all times.

This will protect the window and the material.

There was a car on here owned by matt (offyourmarks). It was an M roadster with 5000 miles on it.

It needed a new softtop at that mileage because it was always stored with the softtop down.

My softtop is 2 years old and is as new still.

The reason is its only down for short periods.

I use the window protector and pipe insulation to increase the fold angle.

Take it from me, I know what im talking about, im anal about my car and the condition.
