Dave (Mint) came over today for a little help in removing a broken ABS sensor securing screw with a broken drill bit stuck in it on the O/S/F.
We stripped the brake calliper, disc, hub and backplate to reveal the opn end of the screw hole. Using a 4.5mm drill we removed as much material as we could until reaching the end of the broken drill bit. Next using a carpenter's pin punch we knocked the broken drill back the way it came from and then drilled until we reached the end of the broken bit again. We repeated this until the broken drill fell out, drilled through at 5mm and re tapped the 6mm thread ready for the new bolt Dave collected from Sopers on his way here. Took about 1 hour to do. After we got it back together we went for a butty for lunch at Colbournes Cafe on the A57. I took him for a ride in my Z4.
Cleared the fault codes and after a road test quietly confident we fixed the problem.
Not looking too shabby for a 200,000 mile car is it. I like that ageing blue.
Nice to see Dave again, been a while.
Tony.
