Hi, new to Z3 ownership. Have a 1997 1.9. When I stop my car and take out the key, the alarm seems to make a noise, it sounds 3 times. I don't have a fob to set or clear the alarm. Does anyone know where I can find out what the alarm sounds mean? Do you know if it is possible to get a replacement fob to enable me to use the alarm or should it be set/unset when I lock/unlock the car with the central locking? Thanks.

Hi & welcome, where are you based ? My 1.9 makes three bleeps when I take the key out but not on my 3.0L
Post on the wanted section for a FOB and search on Ebay but make sure that the FOB is for a Zed 3. Geoff

Hi, I am based in Sheffield, UK. The alarm light also does not come on at all. I am figuring that there is some issue with the alarm but don;t know what it is.

Hi the alarm light gets activated by the remote (FOB) not the key.
On old models the alarms were fitted when they arrived in the UK

So the alarm will not be activated unless I have the remote key fob? It is not activated by the central locking.

Thanks. Yes, I have been looking on eBay. I have posted in the Wanted section already. I will also try my local BMW breakers, Quarry Motors.

Hello,

As Geoff has said the alarm is set with the remote - the key just centrally locks the car. Can you confirm you have a 3G EWS system fitted ? It could be an aftermarket.
As far as I know there are no alarms when you remove the key. If the system is set (via remote Fob) and you use the key in the lock then that triggers an alarm.

The following are extracts from 3G EWS supplementary manual

Interested in a used one. I hope then that I can sync that up to my unit.
For a used one keep checking EBay & breakers
Full instructions on how to recode remote is detailed on this forum
Still no reply re new one but if made will be expensive

I know BMW provide this service. You need your log book for obvious reasons. Not sure of the cost but maybe a call to your local dealer?
