I have a very low mileage 1998 Z3 in excellent condition and recently fitted a new original rear exhaust section as the original was 20 years old and had corroded. Unfortunately the original exhaust finishers are “No Longer Available” due to BMW considering them as accessories and they are now very rare items (never seen one secondhand). So to retain the look I have been searching for alternatives and have found one, a trim meant for the Opel Corsa D/E range GM part number 13447810. This tip is very nice, fits tightly (has to be pressed on) and works well. See photo.

Interesting as i have just had to replace the exhaust in my car, the original exhaust was a one piece stainless steel system, replacement ment i would have to get a front and rear sections at £2500.

I thought all original were one piece or am i wrong?

Well mine is two piece and all original BMW, front part is stainless and contains cat, rear part is resonator and silencer. Rear part was £230 BMW genuine and as last one had lasted 20 years seemed ok. Quality is excellent. Bear in mind mine is a 1998 pre facelift car...

Looking at the parts catalogue seems there was a design change during 1999, mine has a solid steel flange coupling with two spring loaded bolts in the middle joining the two sections.

Seems earlier genuine 2.8i exhausts had the same fittings in the middle and are interchangeable with the earlier 1.9i rear piece.

1 or 2 piece? My 2.8 is a stainless aftermarket exhaust but when I looked at replacing it I was asked weather it was a 1 or 2 piece system. I wasn't aware they did two different systems on the same model. Looks like the 1.9 had the same thing. Probably down to the fact the Z3 was built out of the parts bin.

From BMW’s own parts catalogue the 1.9i M44 was all 2 piece but the other models had both, must say I am happy with the 2 piece solid flange type I have.
