I see many cars at this time of year with totally illegible (mainly rear) number plates and you can get pulled by the Police for this.

Did you also know your car could fail the MOT for this too? Would you want this as a failure on your MOT history? No? Then keep them clean.

Sadly mate to many people a car is just a thing that gets you from A to B and they don't realise (or care) that they are required to do certain things. Just look at your horror stories from work (retired).

I got pulled and to be fair the copper was really nice, I went to clean it off with the sleeve of my top and he said don’t do that and went and got me some tissue. Then he jumped back in the car and sped down the road on blue lights and pulled up outside a house. So I think I got away with it, he could have been a lot worse and fined me.

My excuse not to clean them though was because it was the day I said goodbye to my first baby

it does make you realise why knife crime and burglaries are going unresolved though, when plod has so many dirty number plates to chase!

The dirty lights are the major issue here, from a safety perspective. The number plate is secondary.

A dirty Zed is the main issue.... that should be illegal.

I followed (2 cars behind) a police motorbike and the plate was so dirty you could not make it out. I tried to get close enough to get it on the dash cam, but the car in front slowed right down because it was a police bike in front.....
