If you look at pictures of Z3 engine bays one thing always catches my attention. It’s the yellow discoloured windscreen washer cap. My car is no different to others and it stands out especially because I have a new tank.
Option 1: Purchase a new cap. I checked and the parts number has been superseded a number of times and I can’t find the exact original part online. If anyone knows where to get one, please share.
Option 2: Paint the cap white. The downside is getting the paint to stick and not eventually flake in the hot environment plus it might look too white.
Option 3: A process called retro brite that uses hydrogen peroxide and UV light. It used to restore old computer keys and cases. There’s a lot of different ways and methods online. I think they all work but some take longer than others.
I went with the retro brite process and it turned out really well and looks natural. There is a risk and you have to check the progress of the part often. I didn’t run it overnight for that reason. If you wish to use the retro brite process then research it throughly and make sure you can get a second hand cap in case something goes wrong.
