I am breaking a 1998 1.9 and someone has asked me for the yaw sensor, which I am told should be under the carpets beneath the passenger seat. I was surprised when I heard this as I don't recall seeing it when I stripped my 1998 1.9. I have checked through photos and can't see it either.

I have looked under the carpets in this breaker and sure enough there's nothing under the passenger seat besides the loom. I don't see it under the drivers' seat either, just in case it was LHD/RHD confusion

Is it in a different location on 1998 models and/or 1.9s?

Thanks in advance

I presume it will only have the sensors (two of them usually, lateral and yaw) if the car has ASC or DSC.
If they are there, they are under a white plastic 'guard' just in front of the passenger seat towards the door and bolted to the floor.

Aha, thanks mate. I didn't look under the white cover yet. I'll check there next. Thank you

It wasn't there :(

I was reading up on the difference between ASC vs DSC and it seems ASC does not monitor laterally, and would theoretically have no need for a yaw sensor. This car has ASC (as does my own), which might explain why neither of them appear to have this sensor.

Mystery solved, perhaps.

I asked my local Z3 breaker if he had a yaw sensor for my 2002 2.2 as my code reader is saying it has a fault, he told me that they only fitted them in the last 9 or 10 months of production and no longer available from BMW. So rare as hens teeth but probably not present on yours. Have not had a chance yet to investigate my issue further.

Chances are it has got damp and seized internally.
The parts ARE available new from BMW (they changed the part numbers several times, though). I got a quote from my favoured dealer (Sopers Lincoln) but then wish I hadn't. They are very, very expensive!
I am sure the parts are the same as on other 3 series of the same era, if looking for used ones.
