Black zed is booked in for MOT at 10am this morning. Just got her out of the garage and the ABS and ASC lights are on. Just done a quick 5 mile run around the bypass but they're still on. There's no time to mess about so I just cancelled the MOT appointment until I sort her out.

I've only done 900 miles since the last MOT as I intended to replace the old engine due to excessive oil consumption. Replacement engine fitted over Christmas holiday, new front shocks fitted soon after and everything's been good since. I haven't used her much as the silver zed is ready and waiting on the drive and the black zeds been tucked up in the garage.

I've got some spare wheel sensors somewhere in the garage, had a quick search but they aren't where I thought they were so gave up and came in.

Tax is up next week so I've just SORNed her for a while. I could do with some breathing space though. Silver zed was MOT'd and taxed this month and my newly acquired Honda Accord will be due MOT and tax in May next year too

Sounds like the abs sensor. Very similar issue on my old m44 where both abs and traction control warnings are on.

I have an early zed languishing around, have the same problem that when left idle with battery disconnected the abs lights come on when reconnecting battery and starting car, usually go off after a little while. Last time though they've stayed on. wanted to know what scanner would tell me which sensor was causing the issue.

That happened to us on the way to our MOT (CT over here) but found that if we spun the wheels on some gravel they went out Still come on occasionally but we ignor them now.

Mine came on when I had left the boot slightly open when it was not being used and the battery went flat. On recharging the battery the ABS and ASC lights came on and stayed on after a 20 minute drive. I decided to really test the brakes and did an emergency type stop, the lights went out and have not come back since.

That’s odd, my 98 2.8 has stood around for ages with battery off and never been an issue.
The early cars need a proper scanner to show which sensor it is (my own couldn’t tell me).

Worth checking the plug - they need to be very firmly in place.

@Jack Ratt the good news is that on the early 2.8 cars it very unlikely to be the ABS module but just the wheel sensors- I think mine has had all 4 now...luckily they are cheap enough to do.
The later cars have a different ABS unit and they pack up (just like they do in VW etc as it’s the same Bosch Unit I believe).

Good idea to space out the MOT dates, it’s not great having them all come up in quick succession :banghead:

Here’s the terminology ....

ABS - Another Bu**ered Sensor
ASC - Automatic Stress Creator

@Dino D I've had a previous problem with the ABS/ASC lights which is why I have spares in my garage somewhere, just need to find them now =))
I've also got or rather had INPA on my laptop, but I need to reload it onto my "new" old laptop after my son inadvertently tripped over the charging lead and knocked the old one off the car and onto the garage floor.
I might have a look at it later today but I was planning to relax and do f***all this weekend :beer
