Blimey Dave, that's a blast from the past. I last used that stuff when I fitted the unions in the radiators when we built our house 31 years ago. Good stuff though.

Agreed Tony, I never failed with it. However with PTFE I never seem to get it right 1st time. Either too much or too little.

Well the ptfe seems to have done the trick had a topless run down the snake and around winatts so far so good .but I'll be keeping an eye on it.

Just a note on this . initial leak was on the expansion tank attached to the rad and is a common failure on Bmw.But when I checked the rad an scraped away the crap u cant see cos its in between the aircon rad and cooling rad the rad core was breaking down wouldnt have seen this without removing it.And this would have failed in the near future
So on these older cars check your rad.
