An american friend posted a link to these. I can't quite decide whether I like the look or not... I could imagine the wire wheels looking really nice on a dark coloured Z3, but the Z4 looks plain wrong with them.

As above, plus they look like crap on both cars. They belong to the classic car era and the Z is not a classic car (as yet) but you would still not fit them then, as it does not fit in with the time frame.

in my minds eye wire wheels looked really good on a Z3 in fact it was one of the many mods i was thinking of doing...

in reality though i'm not sure it gains anything from them the Z4 looks plain wrong...like ballet shoes on a prop forward...

on the Z3 i'm on the fence but am definitely more on the "not good"..more because it just doesn't gain anything at all looks wise that isn't achievable with stock wheels and it must have been a fair bit of wedge to do...

The m wheels look great and suit the car.

Don't like aftermarket wheels on an m car imho

I have been searching around for some retro style wheels for my refurbished Z3 2.8 (1998) which I have tried to continue with the Z3's original retro (50's/60's) styling (which is what attracted me into Z3 ownership in the first place) ...personally, I am not into the seemingly popular 'low stance street racing' styled Z3's (for me, the Z4 is better styled for that), but each to their own... I currently have M3 wheels which are not in keeping with my overall style in my POV & the closest I have seen to what I like is the old style BBS wheels which seem not readily available apart from copy wheels from China (which I am still thinking about). I do not like the OEM wheels & most aftermarket wheels are too 'street racer style' for my taste. Although many people dislike wire wheels on cars produced long after their demise, I think they can work well with the Z3 (especially a dark colour like my Violet Red with chrome touches around the car (front grill, handles, lights etc)). I am not a BMW purist and am not trying to keep my Z3 stock, rather enhance it in terms of performance & style as per my 'vision': "a classic styled roadster that is a practical everyday drive and can still be pushed occasionally without feeling guilty about it!" ... I have contacted a few wire wheels companies and none can supply (despite on line claims that they can (eg MWS)) so I am now contacting what is about the last hope, Dayton Wire Wheels (USA) ... probably go for direct bolt on rather than splines... they cost a small fortune, so I have not made the final decision yet ... will post some with what ever I end up with ... as I was born in 1960, a classic styled Z3 seems appropriate for my generation & understand that some younger people may not be into that... each to our own ... including me :p
