Wiper Blades Query?

Hi all, I'm new to the forum and have a question that will probably sound very stupid, but, I'm getting nowhere at the moment, I really am a novice with cars and don't have a clue.

My wife has a 1998 BMW Z3 2.8 but hasn't used it much since buying it from new due to various reasons. The wiper blades have only ever been changed once, years ago, and now need changing again but I can't seem to get any that fit. I've been through the regular channels, i.e. typing in the reg number and it is always giving me the 'Bosch Super Plus Universal Wiper Blade Set Sp20/20S' but the clips will not fit them and they just slide off. They don't clip into the hole that is on the arm and seem small compared to the length of the hook. I've even been to Halfords and they recommended the same blades and when I queried it they said I would need to take the car itself up to them to see, but, it is quite a journey from where we live and I don't particularly want a wasted one so thought I would ask here first?

I know you can buy some that have various clip sizes to attached but again not sure which one's to buy.

Any help would be much appreciated.

I got Bosch Aeros from Halfords. Just clipped straight on.

They’re a staggered set though, one is longer than the other by a couple cm, but can’t recall exact dimensions

As far as I am aware all z3 use the standard wiper blade that until flat blades came along was the fitment for pretty much every car.

You must be doing something wrong pretty much any standard wiper blade fitment irrespective of the actual blade quality should fit straight on.

I possibly am doing something wrong to be honest because they fit perfect but just wouldn't stay on, i.e. didn't clip in or could easily be removed.

Where are you based Jason? Some pictures would possibly help. If the drivers side blade has a "spoiler" that should be at the bottom.

Hi Tony, this is an image of the arm.

The Bosch blades that I previously bought and that Halfords advised me to buy fit the arm, but wouldn't click into the hole on the arm, i.e. they would just come off with ease and without any great pressure.

Wilko hardware stores, couple of quid and have the correct fittings with them. Don't go for those silly big fat floppy things though.

What about the blades? Same type of arm as my Z4 normally they just hook on and when in the “working”position they cannot slide off.

Good stuff. Was really pleased with mine. Perform great but also lifted the whole look at the front of the car, cos the Aeros look much more modern than the rickety old-style ones:thumbsup:

Tony,
As Andy said I’d take the car and blades back to Halfords and get them to fit them for you. I don’t think they charge a lot to fit wiper blades.

Mine had a “spoiler”...yanked it off one day without realising what I’d done!!! Would very much like to replace it at some point, yes, another for the “To Do” list! :(

Thank you all for your replies and help, took your advice and went over in my wife's car and the only blades that would fit it were the Bosch Aerotwin one's as mentioned by DrWong in the first reply. All sorted now and considering it's only the wiper blades it does actually make the car look more modern!
