As Miss G ( as she has now been named ) is off road for the winter loos as if i am going to upgrade to power flex bushes after reading the article by Mike Fishwick, As we are planning on keeping Miss G till it is not financially viable to run thought this would be a good place to start, boss is a bit skeptical about me doing this as mechanically a bit green but hey ho i pull a 100 million pound plant to pieces how had can it be

Right priorities - practice on the plant and then get it perfect on the Zed ;)

For a bit of inspiration, and if you get really bored, and you haven't seen them already - these should give you a bit of confidence of what can be done in a single garage with a decent tool kit... and someone who knows what he's doing!

These threads are all great reads Gaz.
I'll never (although, never say never) be doing this sort of stuff, but I do enjoy reading about others that do.

Why?
Tony.
Tackling big jobs on cars is a bit out of my league now Tony. Used to do it when I was younger ....but that's why I said never say never...
I'm happy with servicing and doing anything where you don't have to do too much scrabbling about on the floor under a car with s**t dropping in your eyes. Been there done that and got the t-shirt;)

Fair enough mate, maybe that's where I'm going wrong at work. I'm the oldest man in the workshop but I have to do all that 3 men 2/3 my age and 1 youngster 1/3 my age do. Roll on next October.

but I have to do all that
Agreed Tony but at least at work you can get the car up to a decent height to work on. If I'd got a workshop like Ed China I would be pleased to do bigger stuff on the car. My muscles just wont let me move the way I could 40 years ago:( (well I could but then I wouldn't be able to move the next day). Struggling under the car on axle stands is for younger folk:)

Absolutely agree @Mint - I don't like like to admit defeat but I do what I can and pay the price in units of pain the following days. A few months ago I put the car up on axle stands to change gearbox strainer and oil - having wriggled underneath I thought WTF am I doing this for - took it to my local indy and paid him £20 to do it - no brainer really. A ramp or pit would be different.

My line of thought exactly:thumbsup:. I did the same when changing the gearbox and diff oil. I couldn't get the car high enough (safely) so went down to the local garage with my oil and said how much to do this for me. Cost me 3 pints (of beer).

You're right Colin, that's why when I was a much younger man (28 years ago) I dug a pit in my garage. I never use it though, it's much easier to drive onto a ramp at work, and stand there and press a button. I do quite a lot a jobs at home though.

Tony.
