The winter project Zed is in the fold, after a long day in Cornwall yesterday with @Low Rider (many thanks mate for chauffeuring me) collecting the Artic Silver zed and spending some quality time chatting and driving around with @Jack Ratt and Jill we set off for home with a little trepidation (as is the norm when you buy an old car) however other than a little flutcuation on the temp guage that settled down (needs new thermostate I would guess) the drive home was uneventful and smooth. Cruised home at 70 to 80 most of the way and the old thing seems as smooth as it should be, none of the expected bangs and clunks from the suspension but some from the drive train, prob either the doughnut or diff bush. The enging is smooth and pulls very well.

So other than a few obvious boby panels to sort as in replace the front wings (pair supplied with the car) and drop the sills off and sort some minor bubbling, until the strip down all seems far better than I was expecting from a car bought unseen.

Big thank you to Chris (the seller) his discription of the car was understated if anything and he threw in the tonneau, wind break various other spares and a load of autoglym cleaning products, a top bloke.

So some pics as I have been asked to put a few on, I'll probably do a thread over the winter.

Glad you and @Low Rider accomplished your mission and got back safe and sound. What a top bloke Steve is for driving all that way. The car looks really good for that money.

You beat me to it by about a min Niall, I was texting the bloke to buy this for my Dad to stop him eyeing up my 3.0 :)

The thermostatt and waterpump change would be standard anyway I would guess as she's done 120,000... but looking at the cosmetic changes that have happened along the way she hopefully isn't running on the original.

I thought from the sale photos the car was Titanium. It's quite hard to tell until the two silvers are side by side. How about the seats? Are they in good condition?

If @Low Rider ends up with a set of M seats then I'll be happy if he wants to part exchange his old ones with me! ;)

Congratulations on your new stable mate Niall and great team work fellas! I'll look forward to watching this one get pampered back to glory:thumbsup:

Not sure yet mate, it is certainly seems good enough to be a keeper, so you never know the ///M may go up on blocks :whistle:my intention was to do some work on her over the winter and move her on in the spring but not so sure now, we'll see, depends on what I acutally find when she gets stripped, if it needs lots spent then she will probably become a keeper, if not I'll play over the coming months and decide then.

Yeh true @Low Rider was a star poor sod was ill as well but still spent all day helping me out, top bloke. the seats are passenger 9/10 drivers 8/10 drivers is probably a little better than the one in my ///M so guess where that might be going. Pump and stat is a must plus the clutch in the fan is a bit tight so that needs replacing too, all in all its over cooling by some margine all minor service items so no issues.

If the car gets moved on it will be without the ///M seats thats for sure, just too valuable to leave in it for sale.

She did 33.2 mpg on the run home at 70 to 80 all the way according to the OBC even allowing for inaccurancy thats good, I need to have a little talk with the ///M about running costs me thinks=))
