Window regulator

Had my first frustration with the car this week. Pushed the button to roll up driver window, and about halfway up it stopped. Pushed the button again and it went a couple of inches more, and started hammering like an M60 machine gun, and the window will go no farther. The mechanic who works on my cars says the regulator probably needs to be replaced, but I'm wondering if the window might just hace slipped off the regulator track? I don't know how the whole thing works on a Z, but that happened on my 911S , and I just had to reposition the glass onto the track. The 911 had manual window cranks, though...

I'd take the door card off first before dipping your hand in your pocket. Could be a simple free fix once in view.

There are some weld on the door that can give way, it's quite common, as Andy says, remove the door card.
