Do your Z3 windows rattle when closing the door?

Mine do and its annoying. I have a good idea of the issue but would love some advice. It all started when i was investigating the annoying noise i had from the drivers door when closing it. Isolated a lot of this to the metal security plate that surrounds the lock mechanism on the inside. I fixed this by drilling a small hole in it and using a cable tie i fastened it tight to a rigid part of the door, no more noise from this.
However the glass rattles when i close the door with the window down.
Looking inside the door the glass slides down a rubber guide on the left and this has perished. In fact i have to cut away the last 5 inches as it was in shreds.
On the right there is a metal runner with no rubber, i think this is normal but need someone to confirm.

When the window is up and the roof down the glass still rattles when the door is closed.

So questions if i may.

  1. Does yours behave this way?
  2. Is the internal runner on the right just a metal guide (no rubber)
  3. Is there anything to tighten to secure the glass better?
  4. can i replace the rubber on the left side without replacing taking everything apart?
  5. Is the rubber on the left side in multiple parts or is it once piece all the way up to roof level?

Many thanks for any guidance

Jon

There should be a rubber guide on both sides, on my 2.8 the windows where slow going down, the rubber guides where very dry so I lubed them with grease and the windows are speedy again :D
The glass should not be againt metal at any point, up or down, this will be the cause of your rattle
The giude on the quarter light side is very easy to replace but you will need the door card of, 3 ten mm bolts hold the whole thing in place

The other guide has no rubber.

I’ve looked into replacing the rubber on the quarter glass but found it wasn’t viable. It can split at the very top and be a source of leaks.

I can’t remember if that was because the spare isn’t available separately. It’s too match agro to bond it properly or it was just too expensive.

I had decent spare quarter glass so I just used that.

But for sure the number of issues in this area will outstrip secondhand supply at some point as they will all end up rotting in the end.

So a useful question for you to ask.

Ok, so mine looks like those pics except obviously have the rubber is missing on quarterlite side.

I wonder if these parts are still available?

I forgot that the guide is bonded at the top as Robert said, if its only the bottom that has gone you could just cut your old one below the window scraper, maybe get a peice from one of the breakers on here

Coming late on this one but I am currently facing the same issue, is there any fix I can do at home, also any photos would be much appreciated to understand where the bushings/rubbers are located 🤓
