Does any one have any idea how to stop the windows rattle on my 2.8 Z3. I have adjusted the screw on the underside of the door, this makes tight to the roof rubber. It rattles when the rood is down.

A couple of people have found that their window guide rail rattles in the door when the window is down. It is No. 13 here -- in particular the big metal plate at the top of it. This apparently is an anti-theft plate to prevent the actuator from being jimmied open with a tool.

There is supposed to be a piece of foam rubber that cushions this plate, and in some cars it has come loose and fallen into the door.

I had my cards off, and did a lot of work in the doors, lubing sliders, replacing a speaker and a door pull, replacing the rubber gaskets under the handles, replacing the foam shields over the inside handles, and replacing the plastic card sheets with foam panels. And yet, I never noticed that anti-theft plate or its rubber cushion. It was only later that I heard it could cause a rattle with the window, and it is the only thing I have heard of that rattles with the window. But I had no rattles to bother about, and never looked at that plate.

So yes, do look into the door, with an awareness of that plate as a potential rattle-causer.

@vintage42 , my door card is off for the past 3 weeks for all the above you mentioned and a nasty mount broken for the window reg, no point in putting it back on until all the jobs are done :) just waiting to have a good run at it by either getting good weather or good time :)
did you get all yours sorted?

@RonZ , if you cant find it, it might be an idea to also drive with the door card off for a bit :) but be careful, don't go checking while you are driving :-/

@David Cullen it is either my computer playing up or I think your @[then the names] has a space which breaks the links which notifies those people you have mentioned them. You should see the names of the people show in a drop down list once you type the @ then their name [without a space]. Click on their name and it inserts. Is that helpful?
