Will the carpet shrink if I power wash it?

Exactly that, played with cars for decades but never attempted this before.
Have my Z back from my son and the roofs been leaking since June. Had to drive the thing home with the roof down, too much condensation and it smelled. It's a swamp inside, been sitting in a garage with the hood and windows slightly open since New Year and the poor thing is still wet inside.
The carpet obviously has to come out, it's mouldy and did I mention it smells? I'm also sure the rear parcel shelf bit isnt supposed to be covered in green carpet. So, once I spray it with disinfectant and power wash the thing, will it shrink?

Cheers, iain.

It's not how you wash it Iain, it's how you dry it, or, allow it to dry. Don't let it dry where it is left "out of shape" ie, draped over something at an angle or stretched. Try to keep it in the original orientation and it will be ok.

If you have access to a Vax machine (or even a workshop vacuum cleaner) you should be able to get a lot of the water out of it before actually drying it.

Well worth the effort mate, it will cut the drying time for sure.

After all that, turns out I don't need to. What sun there is in Scotland is shining right in the windscreen these days. Dried up lovely in the last ten days. No smell even - Result! Only mould left is on the steering wheel

Now I just need to find where the damn leaks are from.

Hi , I'd still be inclined to check under the carpet as the sponge underlay can store a large amount of water and need to come out to dry thoroughly

Done that, it's a little damp but not the swamp it was ten days ago. Drying up nicely, which I didn't expect in the slightest. Only 1C here, blowing a Gale. And snowing.
