Was following this on the way home from work tonight, looked ten times better in real life, appeared mega wide but could have been the hardtop accentuating

it! Didn't get a proper view of the wheels but they looked the business. A real tasty looking animal. Anyway got me wondering, ignoring the track, is the actual pre-facelift wide body any wider than a facelift body?

I think it's just the rear wings that makes them look stocky mate.

I like mine with a hard top but haven't fitted it this winter.

I think @Bozzy posted a picture of this car a few weeks ago Adrian.

Yes I think the prefacelift rear looks superb - particularly when lowered and on 9.5 rims!!

Great, thanks for the definitive answer as that confirms my thoughts. The photo doesn't do it justice as I was following it from a distance and wondered what it was as it looked really wide and mean, Thought "is it a zed - nah, way too wide and low" got up to it at the lights and sure enough a zed it was!! Looked the bizz. Think a pre facelift wide body is the way to go. I remember @Grumpy saying in his mis-spent youth playing a gaming machine in an arcade that had a wide body zed as the play image and it always stuck in his mind how awesome it looked. I do think a hardtop appears to give the illusion of widening the body appearance.
1740mm is facelift width and the prefacelift 2.8 is
1858mm
So the prefacelift is nearly 4inch wider the lower you drop a prefacelift 2.8 the wider it looks

Gotta love the prefacelift
I run a 9.5 rear rim they fit great

Is it possible that the hard top makes it appear even wider due to the width of the rear screen glass, I know there's different types of hard top so maybe the rear windows vary in width?
Either way it is a very nice looking car!

The hardtop can make it look wider for sure when lowered and with wide wheels:

But top down it looks very low and wide

The facelift looks good and wide too when lowered and properly spaced wheels but arches don't appear so stretched in the 911 like way.
