I cant see it being scrapped, but I can see it being amended so that it is just in built up areas...hopefully!

Having just visited my folks in North Wales I found that the 20 mph limits were only in the really built up areas, where you’d struggle to get past 20 anyway. Many people, including myself had mistakenly believed it was just a blanket swap from 30 to 20..however the 20mph limits are within the 30mph zones.

Where I live, in local authorities it is blanket 20 mph and driving through the Valleys was the same. So common sense is needed across Wales.
However even looking at one main road where I live to just have the 20mph in built up areas they would need to change hundreds of signs off the main road at the cost on 1k a pop. Hence why they made the main road 20 mph

Seems it was different where I was…maybe Gwynedd Council have a more common sense approach.

The local authorities had the ability to decide where to apply the 20mph. But many areas managed by 'jobsworths' just don't have the confidence to make decisions so they set 20 everywhere.

I'm just north of Cwmbrân where they did, IMO, an excellent job.
The through roads are all still 30.
The road I'm on was 40 and went down to 30.
It's only when you turn off the through roads into the purely residential streets that the 20 limit comes in. These are streets where you rarely managed to get over 20 anyway.

Don't think people in the Rhondda Valleys have it the same, but then it's down to cost and the money received from the Senedd was only enough for councils to do what they did. So it works fine in some areas and awfully in others. When it should be working fine everywhere but they didn't want to or couldn't fund it properly. As I said on just one road by me it should be 30 not 20 as is the main route in and out, so slow traffic and queues with bikes overtaking and impatient car drivers risking it by overtaking. If they do what works well then it will cost 100's of thousands of pounds to put signs on each road going off. It is sensible for all those roads to be 20. So multiply that across all areas and we are talking millions. Its just a decent law that is very badly planned and introduced.

It's not often that you'll see that in print.

And, speaking as ome who actually lives here, the 20 limit hasn't made much of a difference. It'll only be a couple of months before the roads are jammed with clueless f*ckwit tourists, and you won't be able to get over 10mph anyway.
