Who unplugged my fans?

Had a very sticky moment yesterday in a traffic jam in Brum when my temperature gauge on my X Trail went into the red. I kept stopping the engine but every so often the traffic would edge forward and I had to re-start it until I was able to pull off the red route and let it cool down.

Later on, I discovered that both my fans had been unplugged! - Near disaster.

My car is serviced by a Nissan main dealer but my local garage does my tyres, MOTs and aircon servicing.

Can anyone think of a reason why it would be necessary to unplug the fans please?

Moved them when redoing the aircon?

Bit late now, but whacking the heater on full everything normally takes plenty of heat out of the engine. Uncomfortable but effective.

I've only had main dealer servicing and the air con recharge. The re-charge was 2 years ago though - hard to believe that I haven't needed the fans in all that time.

Yes - I'd forgotten that in the heat of the moment unfortunately.
