Talk in the trade at the moment is they've gone up as far as they're going to go.

But who knows?
Thing is how long would you want to wait for any increase in value without enjoying driving it. Pointless IMHO.

But.... You might get someone, in 50 years time or so, restoring a 1.8 M43 just for nostalgia sake.

Buy a cheap ///M = spend a lot of money.
Buy an expensive M still spend lots of money! All the perishables are still old. Buy cheap and spend the money getting it right then you have a first rate Zed

Wihen I eventually have all the new parts ive collected to go on my ///M it will be a very clean car with a rebuilt engine not fully run in yet I imagine I might be able to command a price for it but stuff that I’m going to bloody well enjoy and just keep it well maintained untill it comes a time to pass it on.

As for which is the most desirable is very subjective as I really enjoyed my ///M but is costly to run as a daily if that’s your only transport.

Being honest at the time I was looking to buy a zed I preferred the nose of the Z4 and the wide bodied rear of the Z3. The Z4 3.0 ones were out of my price range at the time so opted for the ///M.

If I was Zedless today though I would have a bit of a dilemma as I like the Z4 coupe, Z4 Alpina or one of the Z4 S Drives.

I love my 3.0 M Sport but l am guessing that the ///M version is a fair bit better.

But for the money l think the 3.0 Z3 is a bargain right now.
l think prices will creep up but only the ///M versions will be worth the big bucks.

I think the car is great in all forms to be honest mine has a fair value in my eyes and its more than i paid for it. There are many in all sorts of shape and all owners are different in how particular they are about their own cars.
Lets face it most of us here are enthusiasts of the zed our opinions vary to others but then we would all know a nice well sorted car in any guise of zed to someone who just looks on the car as a roof down motor thats just simply a car.
Value is always subjective and with most things its in who wants to buy it and what they want to pay.
I think the z3 has and will probably always be a timeless shape , for me the extra curves of the pre facelift wide bodied car are stunning it just flows and not many cars achieve this , the Mk1 Audi TT is a great looking car too same kind of era i suppose.
They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder and people will pay for what they think is the ideal car.
Mileage and condition play a part but half of our zeds have alot less mileage then any equivelent year of car so looked after cars will sell.
I would be happy with a high mile car with perfect history that can clearly be seen to have been looked after, than a low mileage car that has not.
Never going to make me rich but the car gives hours of smiles ......priceless

Before I bought my car, I was looking at 2 M coupes as I have always loved the look of the Breadvan but then I decided that it had to be a convertible and for practicality I decided on the 3.0 rather than an M. After 98,000 miles with it I am convinced I made the right choice.
Having said that, I think all models in good condition have their own charm. :)

Absolutely agree Mike, but as an investment, if you bought an ///M you would not be able to use it to preserve it's value so I don't see the point. :(

There are lots more Z3s still on the road today mate. Allegro's were made of self dissolving metal when they were thrown together by Red Robbo's band of idiots. If one still survives in that state it is probably worth what they're asking, has to be a very rare beast. Not to me, by the way.:(

You just can't make any sense of it, LHD Z3's over here cost twice the price of RHD in the UK.
Maybe because main land Europe is a bigger market compared to the UK.

rare for good reason thought mate, they were rubbish! They looked rubbish, they went rubbish and they rapidly returned to rubbish. A part from scarcity why would you really want one today?

Z3 current low values is because there are still just a few too many being used as daily drives. Give it 5 years and values of tidy non M models will double, assuming petrol is still available!

Why haven't MG's and MGB's gone way up in value?

They look cheap compared to what some dealers are asking for clean Z's

Surely they're more of a classic than our Z's?

Prices are all over the place for older cars.

Quite true Tony but I only see a car as something to to use and enjoy, not as an investment. I have done 6,000 miles this summer and I stil hate to see it siting in the garage doing nothing.
