When starting for a min

Hi for a few mins when cold 2.0 making slight odd tapping noise from area/box ringed. OK after a few mins when warm. Anyone sussed this ???

That's the power steering fluid reservoir. More likely to be vanos noise or air pump.

Thanks just sounds around that location, so is that as they come didn't notice it on pickup ? n car under guarantee

Can't say for definite. May be hydraulic tappets filling up with oil. You could video it, upload to YouTube and post a link on here.

A mechanic's stethoscope is your friend in this instance.

You can use a long bladed screwdriver if you don't want to buy one.

Definitely not air pump as that can be seen in picture same place opposite side.

Video here and dont think its tappets the sound is more of a high pitched squeak and not in sync. Seems to be coming around the area in the pic not the engine thanks for you comments

@ljbmwz3 The black plastic pipe to the left of the oil filter housing returns pressurized oil from the top of the engine back to the crankcase via a valve that is located behind the inlet manifold. I can't recall what this valve is called but sometimes it gets blocked.

May be yours has a light blockage. By that I mean that once your engine has built up pressure after a few minutes running it is enough to clear the blockage and then run smoothly. These valves do need cleaning after a while. I may be wrong but it's something to investigate.

Maybe alternator bearings? You could potentially remove the belt with the engine cold and run it for just a few seconds to avoid overheating and see if the noise dissapears

I think possibly something that's running off the auxiliary drive belt . ( or the belt itself)
Think next move would be to get belt off start car see noise still there ( cant be ran any length of time with no belt due to water pump and alternator not being driven) if noise goes away something that turn with belt is problem.

How long till the noise stops, you stopped videoing before it stopped?
First thing I would try is disconnect the wires to the Aux. Air pump. The engine runs absolutely fine without it and it runs on a timed circuit and will stop soon after start up. If you disconnect the wires and the noise doesn't start you have found it. Another thing I had on my Z3 was the idler pulley bearings on the Aux.drive belt.
