Standard fitment would have been 16inch wheels but owners could have specified 17inch and a different pattern wheel when they bought the car. Real OEM site shows the options that were available
Mine has 17" wheels. 225 at the front and 245 at the rear. Known as staggered wheels. It's a 1999 2.8. It's a matter of personal taste and lots are available second hand.
You should be ok with these as long as they are oem and the correct offset and width.
As above the 16s are fine but the staggered 17s look better IMHO. For all oem options check on the link below, you can filter for the z3 specific, although some fit other styles as well if the offset etc works.
