Had to get 2 new tyres on the front of the Zed yesterday, and seeing as they had both worn on the inner edge I asked the tyre fitters if the could check the tracking..
He gave a brief explanation why he couldn't do it, saying it had to go to BMW because it was a specialist job that required weighting all 4 corners. Has anyone heard of this before or is he just feeding me BS because he didn't want to do the job 🤔

Yes and no. He probably didn't want to do it. Was nearly home time?

From the Tinterweb. I've never heard of this though.

Weighted alignment is the recommended way from the factory. 165lbs in the driver's seat I believe. They did a 4 wheel alignment making sure the front and rears where square to one another. Even though the rear is not adjustable, they still need to set the machine up to read all 4 wheels.

He was probably more concerned about the state of the track-rods and how free they are likely to be. I've struggled a few times in the past to get them to move, turns a quick job into hours of messing about. It would be best to have the normal weight in the car, but it ain't going to make much difference. And by normal I mean whatever you normally have in there. There's certainly no need to weight all four corners, I'd even ask "how?"
