Looks like some sort of brace but made of plastic! Aftermarket perhaps?

Well done Niall yes it's a factory fitted composite transverse leaf spring.

Done a bit of reading up seems these types of springs are the way forward in leaf springs.
They are 5 times more durable than steel leaf springs and also a fraction of the weight.

Looks like some wierd, transverse, leaf spring - had one of those on me pram when I was a baby.
Actually - I had one on me Triumph Spitfire as well. Lots of triumphs had them back in the day. (although not made of plastic of course)

... and in 50 years time the metalwork of the car will have been recycled a few times - and that spring will be somewhere in landfill.

HA Vivas had them on the front end. Used these to build F2 Stock cars after the old Ford Pop ones ran out.
