What do you think is the best sized engine for the Zed and why? Another way to put the question.... if you could sell your Zed for and purchase another what would you choose and why - or would you?

As my 2.8 is my favourite child (the remaining human offspring know this) I would never sell. However, as for "best" engine, depends what you want but for some impartial commentary read the attached link from the RAC. Last paragraph entitled "Overall" tells no lies ;)

It has to be a straight six, after that it's the balance between performance and cost. If I sold my MC I would buy another!

At this question should answer just people who drove many models (of motors) and not only for few miles on the motorway; mountain roads will be the best test, IMO. All the others will claim their engine is the best, as usual.:D

I also owned a 2.2 but an seriously considering the 2.8 due to the power, but the 3.0 might be a bit much [fuel consumption is also a consideration]. The 2.2 had the M54 which some people claim to have the best sound. Not sure about that as I have only heard the 1.9 to compare it. The 2.8 I am looking at has a M52.

Had a 1.9: it was more nimble but underpowered
Have a 2.2: a bit less agile in corners but it feels like it has the right amount of power to be exploited on public roads and the iconic six-inline

...so I am very predictably going to go with 2.2.

How is the 2.2 better to the 2.8? Have driven neither, but would have expected the 2.8 to have more power?

I would agree, up to a point. If you like a lazy drive and like an auto, like I do, then it is more about the power and I like my 3.0:)

I can agree to those who drive a stiffer Z4 or a shoe. However, let's face it, the Z3 Roadster chassis is twitchy AF :D and to me at least it gets already scary sometimes...so to also reply to @Ianmc point, I guess it's all down to usability: I just find the 2.2 to be right on that sweet spot.

The 3.0 for me excellent performance yet returns better mpg than most of the smaller engines. I have done runs with various people and i returned better Mpg than the 2.0 2.2 and 2.8. Also the maintenance cost is almost the same as any other straight six engine
