What's that noise?

I went for a drive yesterday and there's quite a loud noise that I've not noticed before. Coming from the rear, Ek,Ek,Ek,Ek if you can imagine that.

I jacked both wheels off the ground and gingerly let the clutch out and there was a slightly alarming 'take up' noise. Turning each wheel by hand I couldn't detect anything but when grabbing one of the half-shafts I could feel a small movement.

I'm assuming UJs or diff?

Steve.

I had something like this after a drive down some of the lanes they call ‘roads’ here in Kent :banghead:
It was stones that got up and between the heat shield and the prop!

Hopefully as simple as that for you too.

Yes, I thought to start with that a stick or something had lodged somewhere in the transmission. Unfortunately, where I now live, there isn't a flat surface where I can lift the car and be confident of working under safely otherwise I would be checking everything. Her ladyship has a fridge freezer and dishwasher stored in my garage too at present.

Did you hit a Yorkshire bloke and he’s still under there?
