I listed a few bits at the weekend, all on auction format with "Best Offer" so why are people offering LESS than the auction start price?

There's a fair few things on there for "best offer", maybe people think everything's the same. Treat 'em the way we treat tourists around here. Ignore the tw@s.

eBay turn best offer on by default. You have to have your eyes peeled to spot it and turn it off.

When you fill out the form for what you're selling or auctioning, there's a block that you can check that says "best offer". This means that if someone doesn't feel that they want to start the initial bid of what you're asking, they can offer you less. If you don't want to accept their best offer, you can reject the offer or just ignore it as the offer stands for a limited time. You can go back and edit your auction to remove the "best offer" part of your item. I have, however, had items for auction that didn't sell or receive any bids and relisted them several times and on the third or forth relisting, e-bay ADDED ON THEIR OWN a "best offer" to my auction. This annoyed me to no end and I had to go back into the listing and remove their "best offer" designation. .........Frankie

I never use best offer or buy it now Tony if using the auction side of it. It just tells people how much your wanting and stops them bidding. Stick to a buy it now or an auction listing, don't mix them up.

No problem really, if you have left the 'Best offer' on there people can offer what they like. You don't have to accept them.Agree that some make stupid offers, but that's their problem.I currently have an add for an item with a starting price of £295 and somebody offered £100. Guess if I accepted it.

Mad isn't it. I'm selling off some of my ridiculously large camera collection (it's an affliction ) and twice already I have been offered less than the start price. I have three items on currently
One guy from abroad (I use eBay Global Shipping) also had the audacity to ask me to take down the auction and he would offer £15 more than the starting bid (good you might think) and then expect me to pay all the international postage costs.
I think they must believe you are desperate to sell. Me? I'm just making some space in my wardrobe.

My thoughts too. I don't like throwing things out that work perfectly even if they're not too current.

If they're old enough, they might have collector's interest. Go to see if there are any others like it for sale. In the left column, there are bullets you can click on that tell you what similar items like that have already sold for. That way, you know what the market will offer you....Frankie

This is always a scam. They think you'll go for the higher price, pay the shipping, and then their "payment" turns out to be worthless after you've paid the shipping and they have the merchandise. Naturally, they've done it off e-bay so their not involved or can control anything. People should probably mail them a skunk....................Frankie

Listing an auction and also having a "BEST OFFER" is the same as saying: If you don't feel that the starting bid is worth what you'd pay for the item, then what would you pay for it?" Don't forget, you don't have to accept the offer and if there is a best offer that is active, and someone places an opening bid on your item, it will be automatically more that any "best offer"............Frankie
