Spent hours on net today looking for decent water pump and belt and tensioner kit so decided to ask you for some help and recommendations. Not willing to pay main dealer prices. You see this morning whilst cleaning under the bonnet I noticed belt has started to deteriorate and wanted to do pump soon any way, might even do hoses after a look through my servicing paperwork, seems they could be original 1999. Please save me from any more eye strain and head scratching help me decide by telling me what you've fitted and where from. All help will be generously rewarded, next time we meet. Rha. Roy.

I went with whatever metal impeller water pump GSF car parts supplied. My original had plastic impellers but the bearings failed first :banghead:

The best (and most expensive) are claimed to be the Stewart water pumps, but you have to wait for them to come in from the US...

Thanks David,Gaz and Ash, get onto it tonight, keep forgetting GSF since our local outlet moved, would go USA but time factor and import duty. Just moved garage yesterday been waiting nearly 4mths for council to repare my old one,had to cover Z every time cos the roof was leaking car got wetter in than out. They told me none available where I am but I knew that they had recently refurbed one in my block after a car fire inside it but they hadn't cleaned it inside, I told them I would take it and spent all day cleaning inside with hose and brush, when finished I had changed colour, I got covered in black soot dust but have now got the cleanest garage inside with new roof and door of all the garages. Was it worth it? Not at the time but now my Z in the dry again I feel it was. Rha, Roy.

Hi @Rha glad you have a dry garage at last still need the booster pack?

When you get a new tensioner they will probably be a different design from ECP or GSF but do fit. I wanted to just change the pulley on mine but couldn't get one so had to change the whole unit.

Belt came from GSF was a Continental belt who supply to manufacturers.

Old one on right and the pulley isn't done up yet on the new one.

I have been told there is play in the tensioner pulley and may be a future replacement, was sure if the aftermarket pulley replacement would be good enough on a stock unit or full replacement needed.

Just changing the pulley is fine Ash as it will come with new bearing(s) in it.

Tony.

Thanks for the pics Brian, be taking mine off shortly so I'll know exactly what's needed and if I want to replace with better quality, the belt looks a bit suspect so its off the road till replaced. Try and post some picks during replacement. Rha, Roy.

Brian I still need the booster but the Z is at the age where other running items need looking at first and providing it doesn't break the bank (and she doesn't make me go on expensive cruise) I'll be in the market for one, any info before hand will be useful though.;)

+ 1 for Hepu - seems to be highly recommended for BMWs across the globe. Belts are so cheap I just got BMW but Hepu pump was purchased from carparts4less which was about £45
