So, both sills are off and much of the car in bits and I was just having a bit of a clear up and found this white nylon thing under the car. I don't remember it so was wondering or hoping someone on here might be able to identify it. It is quite possible its unconnected with the Z of course but . . .thank you in anticipation

No idea what this could be - looks like it could be a nozzle out of some pipe/spray device.
Someone will know. Couple of months ago I found something that had been taken to my son's amongst a whole load of stuff but neither of us recognised it. My son asked on Reddit (I think - not a site I use but common among the younger generations). Took about two months but someone came up with the answer. Happened to be the tool to tighten the mincer attachment on the food mixer.
Might be worth a try there.

Fascinating and thank you for the responses. Fairly convinced now that its not off my Z and am beginning to believe it might have been planted by my wife to confound and confuse me. She has a wicked sense of humour.

You've got me curious.
Can we get a picture of it other way around.

Looks like a mounting clip for a self tapping bolt or screw ( the bit pointing up is the bottom)

Workshop all locked up for the night now so will take a couple of different photos in the morning. The centre hole though, doesn't go all the way through so the base that it is sat on, is a solid disk.

Ok so I have taken some better pics of the offending item. The hole in the middle doesn't have a thread and doesn't look as if its had a self tapper screw or bolt in it. The hole doesn't go all the way through and is blind at the circular base end. It wasn't oily. In the absence of a name or purpose, I guess the Wotsit may have to do . . . for now.

Almost certain it is not a wotsit - It's a thingamabob! Possibly a left handed one at that ;)

I’ve literally stripped shells to the last nut and bolt and save/filed everything. I don’t recognise it.

If it’s off a Z3 I would think it’s something that’s normally contained within a bigger unit and goes unseen. Eg a motor.

I have seen "blind" connectors with a similar design but they are usually made of metal. When they are fitted you can't see anything on the external surfaces of a cupboard or a table or some other type of flat pack furniture type stuff. They fit into a profiled hole and are then twisted to lock in.

You might very well be onto something there.

Gentlemen thank you. Thats good enough for me and now convinced finding it under the Z was a red herring. No doubt one day I will find something in my garage is missing a mystery but essential component but at least I can confidently now get on with the job in hand.
