What is this security device?

Hi all! I have what seems like a security device on the dash of my Z3M. I really want to get rid of it as I like the OEM look, but idk what it is, how it work, or if a previous owner drilled holes to get this in there. Does anyone happen to know? Or seen this before?

It may be an imobilizer. I had one in a merc coupe many years ago because the insurance insisted. There was a key fob on my keyring that I had to touch onto a thing on the dash before starting the car.

Someone here had one just like it on in the roof switch cluster not so long ago and didn't know what it was either, Ill try and find the post...

Its an aftermarket thatcham cat1 immobiliser one of my zeds has a very similar one fitted.
