My new z3 is running cool and I have made the decision to replace the thermostat and I have a new housing. While the fan shroud is removed and perhaps the radiator too I thought I'd replace the water pump, belts, tensioner and pulley.
I'll check on the condition of the hoses as I remove them.

I have service history in the book but don't have itemised bills so I can't see if the hoses have been done. Should I just do them for peace of mind?

Have I missed anything?

I'd do the fan as they have a tendency to destroy themselves as mine did and the fan coupling while your there.

I would replace the hoses regardless then you'll have piece of mind

Hi Grumpy, looking at fans. Some have a 3point fixing, others 4.
All suggest they fit.
I can't check, car in Portugal.
What do you think?

You would need a fan that fits your viscous coupling if you're keeping the original one, if not you just need to ensure both parts match, ie both have 4 bolts fixing or both have 3 bolt.
The viscous coupling screws onto the front of the water pump shaft regardless of fan and coupling compatability.

Tony.

ps. I would change all the hoses just for peace of mind if you have no evidence that they've been done previously, these cars are no Spring chickens anymore.

Few thanks Tony lol!! =))

I would recommend getting a new radiator drain plug as they get brittle with age and the heat. Mine sheared off when I was refitting it. You do not need to remove the radiator as there is ample room with the fan and shroud removed. Real OEM shows 3 bolts to attach the fan to the viscous coupling and 4 to fit the pulley to the drive flange and that is definitely the set up on my 3.0 litre.

One more question. Regarding hoses. Best suppliers or main dealer?

Dealer. No question. Don't know of any aftermarket suppliers of shaped hoses apart from sellers of silicon hoses.

Tony.
